When we explore Prague, we often picture Gothic cathedrals, baroque palaces, and old town charm. But tucked away in the Žižkov district is something that surprises almost every visitor—the Prague TV Tower (Žižkovská televizní věž).

This futuristic, bizarre structure not only towers above the city but also features crawling baby sculptures and some of the best views in Prague. Curious? Let’s dive into everything we need to know for a perfect visit.

Where Is the Prague TV Tower Located?

The tower is located in Žižkov, a residential district just east of Prague’s Old Town. Its exact address is: Mahlerovy sady 1, 130 00 Praha 3 – Žižkov. From the city center, we can get there in under 20 minutes using public transport.

How to get there:

- By Metro: Take Line A (Green Line) to Jiřího z Poděbrad station. From there, it's about a 5-minute walk. 30-minute ticket: ~$1.20, 90-minute ticket: ~$1.70 (ideal if transferring).

- By Tram: Take tram lines 11 or 13 to Jiřího z Poděbrad. Same tickets as metro (Prague’s system is unified).

- David Černý’s Baby Sculptures: These famous giant crawling babies are both creepy and fascinating. They were originally temporary art but became a beloved permanent fixture.

- Oblaca Restaurant & Café: Dine or sip coffee in the sky! The menu offers Czech and European dishes, along with desserts, all with a floor-to-ceiling window view. Try: Grilled Halloumi & Vegetable Stack ($18) or Mushroom Risotto with Truffle Oil ($16)

- One Room Hotel: Yes, there's only one room! For about $600+ per night, we can stay in what’s known as the highest hotel room in Prague, with exclusive service and privacy.

- Multimedia Exhibits: Occasionally, the tower hosts art shows, exhibits, or seasonal light events in the lobby and observation area.

Best Time to Visit

We recommend visiting the tower during these times:

- Clear afternoons: Great for taking wide-angle city views.

- Sunset (around 7:30–8:30 PM in summer): The golden light transforms the whole skyline.

- After dark: The tower lights up in red, white, and blue, creating a sci-fi night view. Perfect for photos!

Avoid weekends late afternoon if we dislike crowds—weekday mornings and evenings are quieter.

Practical Tips for Lykkers

- Bring a camera or phone with zoom: The views are photo-worthy from all directions.

- Wear comfortable shoes: There’s a slight uphill walk from the metro station.

- Use the elevator early: It can get busy around sunset.

- No need to book café seats, but for the One Room Hotel, booking months in advance is essential.

- Restrooms and a gift shop are available on-site.

- Accessibility: Elevators and ramps make the tower wheelchair-friendly.

Why We Shouldn’t Miss It

Lykkers, the Prague TV Tower is more than just a tall structure—it’s a bold piece of art, a panoramic viewpoint, a dining spot, and even a boutique hotel all wrapped into one. Its unusual look might surprise us at first, but that’s exactly what makes it special. It reflects how Prague blends its rich history with playful modern design.

Next time we find ourselves in Prague, let’s hop on the metro to Žižkov and look up. You’ll immediately recognize this one-of-a-kind tower. It’s time to enjoy the best views Prague has to offer!
